TULSA, OKLA. (January 4, 2019) – It’ll be the PA Posse vs. the Sooner State on the front row when the headlining 55-lap Winged Outlaw main event goes green tonight at the 35th annual Lucas Oil Tulsa Shootout. Following 25 heat races and 8 qualifiers, the top 16 in combined points have locked themselves in to the big dance with eight more B-Mains and an LCQ left to determine spots 17-24.
Claiming the pole position with overall high point man honors, Tommy Kunsman of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania used a 7th-to-2nd heat race run and a 4th-to-1st qualifier win to rack up an unmatched total of 233 points. This is the first-career front row start at the Tulsa Shootout for the driver of the Scheuermann Excavating , Professional Dental No. 21K Hyper.
Starting to Kunsman’s outside in P2 will be Newcastle, Oklahoma’s Laydon Pearson. His first-career Winged Outlaw main event start comes with prime positioning thanks to a 4th-to-1st heat race win and a 3rd-to-1st qualifier win that supplied the Select Coatings, TUHB Quality Threads No. 11 D1 with 225 points.
Behind Kunsman and Pearson on the front row, it’ll be two-time Tulsa Shootout champion Jonathan Beason on the inside of row two with Indiana young gun Emerson Axsom to his outside in fourth. A pair of California rising stars line up in row three with Eli Bookout starting fifth and Corey Day driving the Driven Performance house car from sixth.
The 2016 Winged Outlaw champion, Brady Bacon, takes the TKH Motorsports No. 21H Sawyer from seventh while Texan Anton Hernandez goes from eighth. Troy Morris and Kyle Spence close out the front five rows in ninth and tenth.
Also locking-in to the 55-lap Winged Outlaw main event off points was Blake Hahn (11th), Harley Hollan (12th), Joe B. Miller (13th), Chris Andrews (14th), Mitchel Moles (15th) and Cole Roberts (16th).
The final eight spots will be determined later tonight through the LCQ which features the 16 B-Main transfers.
