OCALA, FLA. (February 6, 2020) – Cannon McIntosh will take the next step in his rising career this weekend as he officially begins pursuit of the 2020 USAC National Midget Series championship. Making his outdoor debut with Keith Kunz-Curb Agajanian Motorsports, the Bixby, Okla. 17-year old will face uncharted waters as he encounters #WinterDirtGamesXI at Bubba Raceway Park (Ocala, Fla.) for the first time in his career.
“I’m excited to get the ball rolling in Florida and hopefully carry over our momentum from Chili Bowl into this weekend,” noted McIntosh. “We didn’t make it to Bubba last year, but I’ve been watching a lot of videos to try and make myself as accustomed to the track as I can get before practice on Thursday night. It’s definitely one of the most unique places I’ve seen, but I know Keith and the whole crew will have me dialed in, so it’ll be up to get the job done.”
Starting a handful of USAC shows in 2019 with his father’s Dave Mac Motorsports squad, Cannon quickly made a name for himself with his first-career victory at Southern Illinois Center and second-place results at Gas City I-69 Speedway during Indiana Midget Week and Ventura Raceway in the Turkey Night Grand Prix among other notable finishes.
However, this weekend marks a series of firsts for the teenage star. It’ll be his first contest in the Sunshine State of Florida, as well as his first appearance at Ocala’s Bubba Raceway Park, and also his first outdoor event with Keith Kunz-Curb Agajanian Motorsports. McIntosh, however, isn’t phased one bit; he knows this is just another race.
After all, just three weeks ago he was standing on the podium next to Kyle Larson and Christopher Bell at the biggest midget race in the world. That Chili Bowl run, which included a preliminary win and a third-place finale finish, propelled him to headlines across the country as he secured this full-time deal with KKM in a Tulsa Sod & Mulch, Toyota Racing powered Bullet-By-Spike No. 71K entry.
His 2020 season officially begins tomorrow when Winter Dirt Games XI takes to the track, but he’ll have a three-hour practice session tonight to get loose and make some laps at the Bubba Raceway Park 3/8th-mile.
