Du Quoin, IL | February 20, 2018 – Already serving as the season-opener for the 2018 USAC National Midget Series, the third annual Elliott’s Custom Trailers & Carts “Shamrock Classic” is now even bigger with the addition of winged outlaw micro sprints as the lone support class. Slated for racing on Saturday, March 10th at the Southern Illinois Center in Du Quoin, Illinois, pre-entries will be limited to the first 40 drivers only. With a tally of 31 racers already signed up, a mere nine slots remain for those interested in competing. The micro sprint division will follow POWRi rules, use a passing points format, and feature a main event with 20 cars paying $750 to win and $75 to start.
“I am confident the micros will be a positive addition to the Shamrock Classic,” said event promoter, Lauren Stewart. “We (myself & USAC) put a lot of thought into this and how to do it in the best way possible. I am, first and foremost, a race fan, so my ultimate goal is to put on an enjoyable, efficient show for all you fans!”
Beginning their program earlier in the day, the micro sprint drivers meeting will take place at 11:30 AM with hotlaps taking place at noon. Heat races will immediately follow hotlaps with a lengthy break occurring after the heats and before the primary program with midgets. Once the show gets rolling at 4:00 PM with midget hotlaps, the running order will be as follows: micro B-Mains, midget heats, midget C-Main, midget qualifiers, micro feature, Midget B-Mains and midget feature.
The event will feature a passing points format with your heat race performance lining up the feature and B-Mains. Utilizing POWRi rules, cars must feature Hoosier Tires on all four corners, weigh a minimum of 750 lbs, and all drivers must be at least 13 years old.
Paying $750 to win and $75 to start, the 20-car, 30-lap main event will also feature a whopping $500 hard charger award courtesy of 600cc Performance.
With 31 of 40 entries already filled, you must act fast if you want to claim one of the remaining nine entries. No day-of competitors will be accepted as this is a pre-entry event only. Entry is $40 and you can enter online at https://usacracing.ticketspice.com/2018-shamrock-classic-tickets.
A heavily successful midget event with 50+ cars in its first two years, the Elliott’s Custom Trailers & Carts “Shamrock Classic” has always been a thrilling show for racers and fans, and will continue that trend in 2018 with the addition of micros. A Lauren Stewart Promotions event, the addition of micros would not be possible without the support of 600cc Performance, Speed Shack Performance, Valvoline Fast Lane Express, Litteton’s Storm & Timber Services, and Dub Pub Media.
