Tulsa, OK | December 26, 2017 – One of the most intriguing and exciting young guns in micro sprints and on the rise into midgets and sprint cars is Jason McDougal, who is slated to return for another attempt at the Lucas Oil Tulsa Shootout in his Factor One Racing No. 73. A threat in all four classes, the Broken Arrow, Oklahoma native is a driver to always keep your eyes on. Set for action in the Winged Outlaw, Outlaw Non-Wing, Stock Non-Wing and A-Class divisions, the 20-year old wheelman will look to continue his ridiculously impressive streak of six consecutive top-ten finishes when qualifying for a Tulsa Shootout feature.
With seven Shootout appearances to his name, McDougal has qualified for eight features and as mentioned before, has an incredible active streak of top-ten finishes entering this week’s 33rd annual race. Earning his career-best finish in 2014, McDougal burst on the scene with a stellar second-place bid in the Outlaw Non-Wing main event at the age of 16. In 2015, the Factor One house driver claimed a seventh-place run in Stock Non-Wing and ninth-place finish in Outlaw Non-Wing. Another seventh-place in the 2016 Outlaw Non-Wing feature followed, while the 2017 event gave McDougal one more seventh-place result in Stock Non-Wing and a tenth-place score in A-Class.
A constant threat in the micro sprint world for several years, a Golden Driller is one of the rare achievements that has eluded McDougal thus far. A favorite entering almost every year since 2014, McDougal has had the speed, equipment and decision-making to score the illustrious title, but lady luck has yet to cooperate with him. With a four-class slate and just a little luck on his side, the 33rd edition of the Tulsa Shootout could very easily be the year McDougal walks out of the Tulsa Expo with a Golden Driller in hand.
Beginning on Thursday, December 28th with practice and heat races, the 33rd edition of the Lucas Oil Tulsa Shootout will run through Sunday, December 31st when a new batch of Golden Driller winners are crowned. Walkapedia will continue our Tulsa Shootout coverage all week long with countless previews leading up to the race as we highlight this year’s contenders.
