Concord, CA | April 19, 2018 – Kicking off his 2018 season with a doubleheader with the King of California Series, Concord, California’s Joey Ancona got his season started on the right foot with back-to-back podium finishes. Competing at Dixon Speedway on Friday night, the 13-year old rising star made his season debut with a strong second-place result in his Ancona Motorsports, CS9 Chassis No. 88A. Capping the weekend on Saturday night in Stockton, Ancona recovered from a rough heat race by ending his appearance at Delta Speedway with another podium finish of third-place.
Beginning the weekend on Friday at Dixon Speedway, Ancona prepared for his first regular season event of 2018. Timing in third quick during qualifying, the young gun followed that with a second-place run in his heat race to earn a solid starting spot in the main event. Rolling out in third for the 25-lap feature, Ancona dropped to fourth on the opening lap, but quickly bounced back and retook the show position. Guiding his No. 88A into second at halfway, Ancona thrashed inside the cockpit to reel in the race leader, but fell just short as he claimed a second-place result and trailed the winner by a mere 0.8 seconds at the checkered flag.
Traveling to Stockton’s Delta Speedway on Saturday night for round two of the King of California Series, Ancona once again clocked in with a third place time in qualifying. However, this night a rough heat race finish of fifth nearly relegated the former track champion to the B-Main. Sneaking into the main event, Ancona rebounded nicely, as he had worked his way into the fourth position in the early running. Continuing his march to the front, he moved into the third position with less than ten to go and tracked down the frontrunners. Falling just short of second-place and the win, Ancona ended his night with a third-place result, but was right in the thick of things for the victory in the late running.
On tap next for the Concord, California native is another doubleheader this weekend in Central California. Making his season debut at both tracks, Ancona will first visit Visalia’s Plaza Park Raceway on Friday night, before heading to Lemoore Raceway on Saturday night.
